For the first time, a self-guided audio tour of a portion of Forest Park is now available for checkout from the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center. The audio tour takes you from the Visitor Center to the Grand Basin, across Picnic Island to the Boathouse and back to the Visitor Center. Designed to accommodate different paces, the walk takes between 30-50 minutes. The tour explores park history, both distant and recent, and points out aspects of the park not easily noticed from an automobile. This Grand Basin tour is the first of a total of five planned over the next four years, which will explore other specific areas of the Park.
The tour is free but requires a credit card number as a refundable deposit for the simple IPod Shuffle listening device. The tour also may be downloaded from this site onto any MP3 player to be enjoyed at leisure.
The tour is available for check out on a first-come basis from the Forest Park Forever office, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or from the Visitor Center Visitor Information Desk on weekday evenings until 7:00 p.m. and weekends, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and may be returned the following day. Forest Park audio walking tours are made possible by a generous grant from The Trio Foundation of St. Louis.
