The Lindell Pavilion was built in 1892 as a shelter for streetcar passengers, and was remodeled in 1914 for use by golf and tennis players. A 1925 fire destroyed most of the original building, leaving only the clock tower, which was incorporated in the replacement structure. Formerly known as the Field House, the Lindell Pavilion has been renovated and is now called the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center. The Visitor and Education Center features the Forest Perk Café and facilities for meetings, the Trolley Room for banquets, weddings and other special events, as well as classrooms for use by schools. Home for Forest Park Forever, the facility also houses a satellite office for OASIS St. Louis and the Missouri Department of Conservation, and serves as a major trailhead for the recreational path with restrooms, showers and locker facilities. Visitor information is provided by volunteers from the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission. For rental information, call 314-961-7588, ext. 221, or go to www.cateringstlouis.com. Locker rental contracts are also available online or by calling 367-7275. Daily Locker Privileges -- $75 Annual Contract Your Own Locker -- $250 Annual Contract
Giant turtles lurking in Forest Park? Yes - and you can climb, crawl, and hang on them! Turtle Park, located across Highway 40 at Tamm and Oakland Avenues (within walking distance of the Zoo), has eight turtle sculptures, the largest measuring 40 feet from toe to tail. Created by artist Bob Cassilly in 1996, the playground is a gift of Sonya "Sunny" Glassberg, Forest Park Forever Board Member.
