LAND MANAGEMENT: HORTICULTURE & NATURE RESERVE
The duties of this position include: weeding, pruning, clean up, trash removal, watering, mulching, invasive species control, planting etc… all under the direction of our knowledgeable Land Management staff. Volunteers are required to attend orientation and commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week during the spring, summer and fall. Shifts are 9 AM to Noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.
Park Projects Days – for those that cannot commit to a weekly volunteer commitment, Park Project Days provide an alternate opportunity to work out in the Park. Projects are scheduled a couple of times each year on either a Saturday or Sunday.Park Project Days are ideal for individuals, organizations and families.
Honeysuckle Removal Project – honeysuckle is a non-native, invasive plant species that is detrimental to native plants and shrubs. This project is a partnership with the Kennedy Woods Advisory Group, a group of committed volunteers that have worked tirelessly to eradicate honeysuckle and establish native landscapes in Forest Park since 1999. The annual Honeysuckle Removal Project typically occurs on the 1st weekend in November.

Flora Conservancy of Forest Park – is a not-for-profit organization that partners with the City of St. Louis to maintain landscapes in the Park. This group of volunteers also assists the City with operating the historic greenhouses. They provide weekday morning and Saturday morning opportunities on an on-going basis.For information about this program, please email Anabeth Weil at weila@stlouiscity.com.
Service Projects – Forest Park Forever has the ability to schedule service projects (episodic or done-in-a-day type projects) on a case-by-case basis, depending on the time of year and scope of work. Typical projects include: invasive species removal, plantings, playground cleaning, and beautification efforts. Community groups, organizations and corporations interested in learning more should email volunteer@forestparkforever.org.
VISITOR SERVICES
Visitor Center Information Desk Volunteer - this position is a partnership with the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission (CVC). CVC volunteers provide information to visitors and Park users alike. Some familiarity with Forest Park and St. Louis attractions required. This position also serves as a liaison to the general public; providing information about Visitor Center partners and amenities, Forest Park history and points of interest. Shifts are 9 AM to 1 PM & 1 PM to 5 PM, Monday – Sunday, and volunteers must be 18 or older. Forest Park Ambassador Volunteer - a 2011 program initiative, Park Ambassadors serve as mobile visitor information services out in the Park distributing maps, giving directions, providing assistance with the Forest Park Trolley and serving as a reporting mechanism for emergencies, hazards and maintenance issues. Familiarity with the Park is required. Shifts: Saturday & Sunday, late morning and early afternoon. Some weekday shifts available; however, primary focus is on heavy use days, which tend to be weekends. Volunteers will receive training on Park stakeholders, points of interest, events & activities, commonly asked questions and general safety guidelines.
OFFICE/ADMINISTRATIVE
Assist Forest Park Forever (FPF) staff with various office responsibilities: answering phones, distributing premium benefits to FPF donors and members, filing, computer work / data entry, mailings to FPF members and constituents, copying, special projects, processing tribute & memorial gifts, etc. This opportunity is available during business hours, Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Periodically Forest Park Forever hosts events that require volunteer assistance - examples include the Hiram W. Leffingwell Awards Luncheon, Wonderland Tea Party, Family Fall FunFest and other member appreciation events. These opportunities are generally 4 to 5 hours in duration and occur on afternoons, evenings or weekends. This is an ideal opportunity for those who cannot make a regular, ongoing volunteer commitment.
TOUR GUIDES
Walking Tours are scheduled during the spring, summer and fall on weekdays & weekends.Tours take approximately one hour to complete and volunteers lead approximately two (2) tours a month.Volunteers who are accepted into the program will receive training and information on the Park’s history, renovation, folklore, and current events. Volunteers have discretion to personalize tours based on their interests.
Hop-on Guides - driving tours are scheduled for groups and organizations that provide their own bus/shuttle transportation. These tours are scheduled based on volunteer availability to accommodate the request. Volunteers will receive training similar to that underlined above. On average, volunteer lead 2-4 tours a year.
