Your 2020 Forest Park Fall Foliage Prep Guide

The bright and vibrant trees of Forest Park are an essential part of the landscape that provides a place of relaxation and solace for so many of its visitors.

It is that season. When pumpkin spice hits the air and the craving for chili consumes your thoughts. Which means it is also time to plan your Forest Park fall foliage self-guided walking tour. This year the colors will change a little bit earlier because of the lack of rain we have had in the past few weeks. Last year’s colors were incredible, as the photos below demonstrate.

Did you know there are over 45,000 trees in Forest Park? In the winter of 2019 and 2020, Forest Park Forever — in partnership with the City of St. Louis — planted 425 trees in the Horticulture Zones thanks to generous supporters like you. Right now you can help keep the goodness going by clicking here.

When will the leaves in the Park start to change colors?

The Smoky Mountain National Park publishes a map each year on the best times to view fall foliage in the United States. According to the interactive tool, the colors will be turning shortly. Forest Park Forever’s Horticulture Superintendent Roman Fox agrees. He explains that the drier weather combined with sunny days that we have had will make for earlier color this year.

The peak week to view fall foliage this year in the St. Louis region is starting October 26. Follow Forest Park Forever’s Twitter and Instagram Stories for updates on fall foliage in the Park.

We will be sending an email when the colors are at the prime, with suggestions for spots you won’t want to miss. Make sure you are on the list!
