Your 2021 Forest Park Fall Foliage Prep Guide

The bright and vibrant trees of Forest Park are an essential part of the landscape that provides a place of relaxation and solace for so many of its visitors.

Have you been feeling the chill in the air? It is that time of year again! When pumpkin spice hits the air and the craving for chili consumes your thoughts. Which means it is also time to plan your Forest Park fall foliage self-guided walking tour. The color will change around the same time again this year because of the lack of rain we have had in the past few weeks.

Did you know there are over 45,000 trees in Forest Park? In the winter of 2020 and 2021, Forest Park Forever — in partnership with the City of St. Louis — planted 501 trees in the Horticulture Zones (76 more than the previous year) thanks to generous supporters like you.

When will the leaves in the Park start to change colors?

For nearly a decade, SmokyMountains.com publishes a map each year on the best times to view fall foliage in the United States. According to the interactive tool, and by the looks of some of the trees in the Park, the trees are already starting to turn. Forest Park Forever’s Horticulture Superintendent Roman Fox agrees. He explains that the drier weather combined with sunny days that we have had will make for earlier color this year.

The peak week to view fall foliage this year in the St. Louis region is starting October 25. Follow Forest Park Forever’s Twitter and Instagram Stories for updates on fall foliage in the Park.

We will be sending an email when the colors are at the prime, with suggestions for spots you will not want to miss. Make sure you are on the list!
