How to Make Natural Paintbrushes

Welcome back to Wandering Wednesday! This idea comes from Madison Beirne, Forest Park Forever’s Outdoor Education Specialist.

This week, while we are #AtHomeWithForestPark, I have been diving into new ways to make art. Here is a creative way to bring nature into the art process: natural paint brushes! These brushes require minimal preparation and can be used by all ages for added fun when making art. Let’s get started!

You Will Need:

  • Sticks

  • Rubber bands

  • Yarn

  • Scissors

  • Natural materials

Go outside and collect interesting natural materials. I was drawn to the textures of the cypress, pine, spruce, sycamore and meadow grass. You can use rubber bands or yarn to tie the natural materials to the end of the stick, either one works!

Now you’re ready to create a natural masterpiece! Be sure to tag us in the amazing artwork you create.
