Welcome Summer with These Blooms in Forest Park

As the temperatures warm and summer approaches, the expert horticultural team at Forest Park Forever has another diverse array of beautiful blooms in store for Forest Park’s 13 million annual visitors.

Many of the landscape areas that visitors associate with beautiful tulips or other displays in early spring have been replenished with an eclectic mix of plantings that shine in late spring to early summer. Others are landscapes that have been emerging throughout the spring.

Keep an eye out for these blooms at the following locations, and click the links to find these locations or nearby landmarks on the interactive Forest Park map:

Roundabout at Hampton and Wells (above, second from right): The landscape in this area is beginning to bloom with its summer vibrant colors. Pink Garden Phlox, “Moonshine” Yarrow, Purple Coneflower and Drumstick alliums are all in bloom in early-mid June, making for a warm welcome to Forest Park.

Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center (above, far left): The beds at the front of the Visitor and Education Center are designed to have a constant flow of color for visitors throughout the season. In early and mid-June the Smooth Hydrangea, Pale Coneflower, Shasta Daisey, Black-eyed Susan, Beebalm and Blazing Star are in bloom.

Emerson Grand Basin: The landscapes on the east and west sides of Emerson Grand Basin are full and vibrant in June. The Garden Phlox, Indian Pink, Beardtongue, Foam Flower, Coral Bells, and Oakleaf Hydrangea (above) are all blooming in what is a nice shade garden border for visitors to explore. Several benches on either side of the Grand Basin provide shady spots to enjoy.

Riparian Area along Art Hill Access Path: The riparian landscape between the water and the access road at the base of Art Hill and Post-Dispatch Lake are beginning to transition into their summer blooms. As you walk along this path or paddle in Post-Dispatch Lake, look out for Blazing Star, Pale Coneflower, and Rattle Snake Master, among others.

Note: The above listing does not include the seasonal plant display landscapes planted in mid- and late May. Those are on their way! As of the second week of June 2022, the seasonal displays are expected to take a few more weeks before they truly awe your eye!

Forest Park Forever supporters make this possible: These beautiful landscape enhancements would not be possible without the generosity of members who support the nonprofit Forest Park Forever’s partnership with the City of St. Louis. Not part of the Zoo-Museum Tax District, Forest Park Forever is supported by private donations from throughout the community, including 8,000 members, 1,300 volunteers and many leading community and corporate partners.
