What vegetables grow well in shade in St. Louis?
Leafy vegetables like lettuce and spinach do best in less sunlight. Root crops like beets and carrots do not require full sun. Fruit vegetables like tomatoes and peppers need full sun to be successful. Even the leafy vegetable will need some sun. A fully shaded area may not be able to support vegetable production.
Suggestions for house plants for people who don't have a yard to garden?
Sansevierias come in many shapes sizes and colors. They are tough plants that can take little to no light, as well as full sun. If you want to add some color, Bromeliads are fun plants that provide a tropical feel.
What can I plant that gets full sun but also can tolerate wet roots?
Cannas are great flowering plants for sunny wet areas. They come in a variety of flower and foliage colors. Most Iris would be a good perennial option for wet and sunny locations. be careful they will colonize an area if they like it.

Gardening Tip of the Week
“Use a spade or flat edge shovel to cut an edge on all garden beds that are bordered by lawn. The edge should be cut 4”-6” deep vertically along the line of the lawn, and then tapered into the garden bed to create a “Check-mark” shape from the profile. This edging will prevent pesky weeds from creeping into the garden bed as well as visually define the garden.”
