For 150 years, Forest Park has been an integral part of St. Louis.

By the end of this year, the Glade will become its newest destination, designed by the community for the community with activity in all seasons.

WHY NOW?

At the heart of the Glade is Steinberg Rink, a symbol of community and tradition since 1957. The facility and rink needed major repairs just to reopen for another season. We seized the opportunity to revive Steinberg and rethink what this historic gem and the surrounding 22.5 acres can be for our community.

With its built amenities and natural features, the Glade will be a welcoming, multipurpose destination and a jumping off point for Forest Park adventures.

A new second floor creates stunning views and enables indoor and outdoor gathering and dining opportunities.

The fully accessible path from the Glade to Kingshighway will connect Forest Park to the WashU Medical Campus, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Central West End.

A new entryway to the Glade from Kingshighway will provide an inviting new front door to eastern Forest Park.

Steinberg’s historic façade has been preserved, as workers removed, numbered and cleaned each limestone block before replacing it in its original position.

Amelia’s Place will be a comfortable and inviting space made for game nights, group meetups and gatherings with family and friends.

On the Taylor Family Terrace, visitors can enjoy a meal al fresco in warmer weather, soaking up the sun or relaxing in the shade.

The Kemper Family Commons will be the heart of the renovated building, an all-seasons hub of activity and a comfortable space made for lingering.

Visitors can explore nature, gather with family and friends, enjoy solitude, celebrate milestones, get some exercise or simply relax in a beautiful new setting.

Family-friendly amenities at the Glade will include an interactive water feature with splash pad and fountains.

Designed to harmonize with nearby waterways, prairies and woodlands, the Glade will offer endless opportunities for year round discovery, relaxation and fun.

The Farr Family Lawn Terrace will be a multipurpose outdoor space at the Glade, designed for lounging and keeping an eye on the action.

Ice skating at Steinberg Rink, a St. Louis tradition since 1957, will return this winter on an all-new, state-of-the-art rink.

Imagine a place for every visitor in every season. Skaters. Cyclists. Diners. Nature enthusiasts. First-time visitors. Explorers of every age. The Glade has something to offer everyone.

Forest Park Forever reimagined other features that visitors now see as fundamental elements of the Park and St. Louis: Art Hill, the Jewel Box, the Boathouse, Emerson Grand Basin, the World’s Fair Pavilion, the Anne O’C. Albrecht Nature Playscape and the Nicholas J. Booker Basketball Courts.

The renovated Steinberg facility and the surrounding area will be an expansive setting for festivals, markets, classes and concerts with plenty of room for reading, relaxing, meditating and meandering. And of course, there will be skating! Ice skating in winter and roller skating in warmer months.

THE GLADE IS SHAPED BY ST. LOUIS

Over six years, more than 6,000 residents from 360 zip codes—skaters and non-skaters, park regulars and people who'd never visited—provided input on every aspect of the design. The City of St. Louis has partnered with Forest Park Forever at every stage of design and construction. And individual supporters are helping bring The Glade to life.

The Glade doesn’t just serve the community. It was designed by and for them.
