Boathouse Updates: Boat rentals available during 2026 renovation

An aerial-view illustration of the Boathouse renovation includes a wider deck, a permanent roof for the special events pavilion, outdoor bar and bandstand, new perimeter fence and other enhancements.

The Boathouse restaurant and parking lot is closed during much-needed renovations.

However, boat rentals — kayaks, canoes, paddleboat and more — remain available on Post-Dispatch Lake, just northwest of the restaurant. (Note: The temporary pop-up food garden that opened during construction is closing as of Aug. 7.)

A map directs visitors arriving by car to park in the Visitor Center lots to access boat and bike rentals during renovations of the Boathouse.

Parking: You can park in the Visitor’s Center Lot or street park to access the Beer and Wine Garden and Big Muddy Adventures’ boat rentals.

What’s Happening at the Boathouse?

Originally rebuilt and expanded for dining in 2003 through a Forest Park Forever donor-funded reconstruction, the Boathouse is getting a renovation that will increase accessibility, address deferred maintenance and make a better experience for all.

The Boathouse’s next iteration will improve the flow of people and services throughout the space for diners, boaters, event attendees and the outfitters, chefs and food service staff who welcome visitors.
