Advisory: Closure of Pedestrian Bridge from West Pine
The pedestrian bridge that spans Forest Park Parkway and the MetroLink tracks in northeastern Forest Park is closed effective Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The low-clearance bridge was recently struck by a vehicle on Forest Park Parkway, prompting an engineering inspection of damage to the bridge’s superstructure by the City of St. Louis Board of Public Service. That inspection concluded that the bridge should be closed and removed.
This is a permanent, emergency closure due to safety precautions. Demolition is tentatively scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. and be completed no later than Monday, Oct. 13, at 6 a.m.
During demolition, westbound Forest Park Ave. will be closed from Kingshighway to DeBaliviere. Eastbound will be closed from Union to Kingshighway.
With this bridge removed from service, alternate pedestrian crossings within Forest Park can be found via the Grand Drive overpass from West Pine Drive or via Kingshighway and Hospital Drive past the Glade construction site. When the Glade opens in late 2026, a new ADA-accessible path will be open from Kingshighway to Steinberg Rink.
The City of St. Louis and Forest Park Forever will collaborate to study pedestrian connectivity and recommend potential improvements to access other areas of Forest Park from this area.
Detour during Demolition
During demolition (tentatively scheduled for Oct. 10-13), westbound Forest Park Ave. will be closed from Kingshighway to DeBaliviere. Eastbound will be closed from Union to Kingshighway. See the map below for east- and westbound vehicular detours via Lindell and Delmar.
